A Geonet drainage net includes a protection layer on top of the sealing system thus prevents physical and mechanical damage.

The drainage layer permits a gradual and efficient water transport to the drainage system.

The net can create a horizontal or vertical transport path, which allows for leakage control alongside a moderate and efficient drainage of excess water.

In addition, the Geonet drainage net has a central role in everything related to evaporation facilities.

In these types of facilities it is customary to go through four stages in order to ensure the facility’s efficiency.

First layer includes Geotechnical fabric

Second layer includes sealing sheets

Third layer is the Geonet with the main purpose of providing quality control for leakage status that can come from the top sealing layer.

Fourth layer is the sealing sheet – which the Geonet is checking.

Material Traits

Geonet drainage net is made of polyethylene which belongs to the plastics family (when  contractors mention “plastic netting”, it is best to confirm what type they are talking about, but if the intent is to seal, most likely they mean this type of drainage net).

The material traits mostly depend on its level of density; as the particles density increases in the material, the polyethylene becomes tougher, stronger more resistant to stretches, cracks and erosion.

The material the net is made of is not completely resistant to high temperatures, but it makes up for it in its chemical resistance and its ability to be combined with other materials such as: Ether, Keaton, Acids and more.

The net is used to control leaks and the fact that it can be purchased per meter and installed in a vertical or horizontal excess water path makes it a very popular net.

Landfill Sealing

When looking to dump garbage, a high quality sealing should be used in order to prevent the risk of pollutants leaking into the groundwater.

In this case as well, a Geonet drainage net plays an important role and is an integral part of the sealing steps.

Order of steps is as follows: First lay a geotechnical fabric to protect from mechanical damage.

Then comes the step of laying the Geonet drainage net, then the seal, adding an HDPE sheet, another layer of Geonet netting for conducting the different leachates and completing with a geotechnical fabric.
