What are floating roofs?

Floating roofs for sealing are floating covers used to seal water reservoirs.

The cover is applied on the upper water level, allowing the sheet to move according to the movement of the liquid.

The main purpose of the cover is to protect the reservoir from contamination, to prevent the leakage of gases and odors and to prevent the evaporation of the water.

Floating roofs are in fact sealing sheets that are endowed with properties of durability, flexibility, insulation and light weight.
Most often these floating covers will be made of a thermoplastic polymeric material whose components allow the combination of unique properties.
The most common floating covers in the world are the regular and reinforced polypropylene sheets.

Floats and weights will usually be installed on the floating cover to allow movement on the cover when needed.

Method of construction and installation

In the construction and installation of floating roofs (floating covers) certain steps must be taken to ensure the desired result of sealing the water reservoir.

Therefore, a number of operations must be performed before, during and after construction.

Detailed planning

The first stage before construction and installation is the planning stage.
At this point you need to know the site where the floating roof will be installed, understand the needs, decide on the materials and plan the course of action as much as possible.

Choice of materials

After planning comes one of the most important steps in the process, and that is choosing the materials we will use.
When choosing we must take into account the needs of the seal, the environment, the type of liquid and other parameters.
It is important to remember that one of the rules in choosing materials is the use of materials from those families, as these tend to blend in the best way and ensure a quality result.
Also, only materials approved according to Ministry of Health and Environment regulations should be selected.

Before applying the floating cover, it is important to remember that one of its uses is to keep it clean and prevent contamination and dirt. Therefore, according to the application, the surface on which we place the cover should be thoroughly cleaned.

Laying the sheet

The main step in the installation is to spread the sealing sheet on the desired surface.
The layout is done by special equipment, in order to make sure that the sheet is stretched and effectively covers the area on which it is applied.
After deployment, a sheet is stretched and attached.

Installing floats and weights

The final step in installing the floating cover is to lay out and install special weights and floats on the sheet.
This is to allow movement on the sheet for various needs, including rainwater drainage, fluidity control, repairing holes and more.

Do it yourself or leave it for the experts?

A question that is asked in every construction and installation of any products, is whether it is worthwhile to carry out the process ourselves or leave it in the hands of an expert.

Of course the question depends on the type of product we are dealing with.

When it comes to installing floating roofs it seems that performing this operation alone without the consultation or equipment of a professional is not simple at all.

Due to the problems that may arise in a failed execution and the price that has to be paid to repair the damage that can be caused, it may be better to leave this action to the experts.

There are companies that specialize in the construction and installation of floating roofs, including Komshov Plains.

Companies like us have extensive experience in installing floating roofs, have advanced equipment along with knowledge and understanding of the various materials and uses and will often also ensure full responsibility for their work.
